Real Networks tries very hard to SELL you their upgraded audio player. You don't need it if you are just going to listen to audio files. You only need the FREE download. Please read and follow these instructions and you should not have any problems. The process is sort of a pain but once you have the FREE audio player installed you will not have to do this again.

PRINT OUT THESE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DOWNLOAD THE REAL AUDIO PLAYER. ONCE YOU HAVE PRINTED THEM OUT, CLICK ON THIS REAL AUDIO ICON.



1. Scroll down to the middle of the Real.com home page. Find the narrow gray band across the center of the page. Click on the left hand link which says: RealPlayer 8 Basic - is our free player

This will take you to the personal information page.

2.. Enter your E-mail, select your country, select your operating system (like windows 98 or Mac OS 8), select English as your language, and select your connection speed. (Look at your connection box of your Internet service. See what speed you are actually connected at. Even if you have a 56K modem, some Internet Services run at 28.8 or slightly higher) If this is what you find, select the lower number like 28.8K. After making your selections click on the dark gray horizontal box which says:

3. Scroll down on this new page and Click AGAIN on the dark gray box which says: Download Free RealPlayer Basic Now

4. Click on the downloading location nearest you. (In the US it is either Seattle or San Francisco.)

5. A whole bunch of promotional boxes will fly on to your screen. The only one that matters is the Real Download box. All the others can be closed.

6. When you are asked to save the file to disk, be sure you know what folder on your computer you are saving the download into. You may need to know this later. Typically you would save it to your downloads folder but you can choose which ever folder you like, as long as you know which one it is. Write it down for future reference.

Note: The Real Audio player may take over 45 minutes to download at 28.8K. Half of that time at 56K. Download it when you are through using your computer for the day. You don't need to look at it until it is finished downloading.

7. If after the download is complete the SET UP program does not load automatically, access the folder you saved it to and look for a download file whose name starts with RP8. Click on that file icon. You should be notified that Real Audio is preparing to install the player on your computer.

8. Follow the instructions of the install program. Mostly you just hit next or continue unless you want to make some choices on programming alerts. These choices do not affect anything if you are just going to listen to audio files.

9. Once the Real Audio player is installed, an introductory message will play. If you see it but don't hear it, make sure you computers speakers are on and turned up. If you don't see this intro piece, something has gone wrong in the install process and you should try it again. If your download is incomplete you will need to do it again.

10. After you have successfully installed the Real Audio player go to emergingworlds.com interview sections in the Professional Forum or Center of Hope. Click on one of the interviews. Click on one of the segments and it should load automatically into the Real Audio player.
